Mark Messier has released the names of the first 15 players to suit up for Canada at the world hockey championship this May in Germany.
The Calgary Flames have placed two players on the roster — defenceman Mark Giordano and forward Rene Bourque.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will be represented by defenceman Francois Beauchemin.
Canada’s preliminary roster — with Messier as general manager — includes one goaltender, five defencemen and nine forwards.
Chris Mason of the St. Louis Blues is the netminder.
On defence, Canada will also feature Brent Burns (Minnesota Wild), Kris Russell (Columbus Blue Jackets) and Marc Staal (New York Rangers).
Up front, Team Canada has Steve Downie (Tampa Bay Lightning), Evander Kane (Atlanta Thrashers), Steve Ott (Dallas Stars), Corey Perry (Anaheim Ducks), Rich Peverley (Atlanta Thrashers), Steven Stamkos (Tampa Bay Lightning), John Tavares (New York Islanders) and Ray Whitney (Carolina Hurricanes).
Also receiving an invitation was junior star Jordan Eberle.
