2012 World Juniors Ticket Draw
If possible, the world junior hockey tournament, a staple in most Canadian homes over the holiday season, is becoming more popular each year. There is such a clamour for tickets to the 2012 event — yes, that’s 2012, not 2011 — scheduled for Calgary and Edmonton that it was announced Tuesday those lucky fans getting seats will be picked in what is being called a priority draw.
More than 225,000 tournament tickets, about half the available tickets, have already been assigned or sold. Some of those tickets went early to the respective junior teams in Calgary and Edmonton for their season ticket holders, to the two NHL teams in those cities, to Hockey Canada, Canadian Hockey League member teams and to the International Ice Hockey Federation, which holds the championship.
Fans who win in the draw aren’t getting freebies. Winning only means a fan has earned the right to buy a ticket. Tickets for 21 games in Calgary, including the medal games, start at $399. Tickets for 10 Edmonton games, including four Canada preliminary games, start at $320. It is all for a good cause: most of the profits will be used for Canadian amateur hockey.
