Devils' Lemaire Retires as Coach
"I will be 65. It's just time"Jacques Lemaire's second stint as head coach of the New Jersey Devils has been a short one.
The longtime National Hockey League coach announced Monday that he was retiring after more 17 seasons behind a bench.
"It's tough to leave what you like aside, but it's a decision that I made and I will do," Lemaire said Monday.Lemaire led the Devils to a 48-27-7 record this past season, but they were ousted in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs in five games by the Philadelphia Flyers.
It was the 64-year-old's second stint with the Devils. He coached them from 1993 to 1998, then spent eight seasons with the Minnesota Wild.
Lemaire said the first-round elimination had nothing to do with his decision.
